ECB faces ICC Trophy threat

England’s cricket chiefs have been told failure to tour Zimbabwe will almost certainly lead to a call to have the Champions Trophy event withdrawn and handed to new hosts.

The sport’s governing body, the ICC, is keen to clampdown on countries failing to fulfil touring obligations, and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has made no secret of its concerns about touring the African country.

But should it pull out, the ICC has confirmed there is a very real danger of the ECB losing the right to host the Champions Trophy later this year – a punishment which could cost the ECB millions.
