ICC unveil fine plan

Cricket nations which pull out of tours they have committed to will find themselves facing heavy fines, under new plans drawn up by the sport’s governing body, the ICC.

The ICC’s Executive Board is currently meeting in New Zealand.

The subject of fines has become more topical given England’s uncertainty over touring Zimbabwe.

Said ICC president Ehsan Mani: “Failure of countries to tour once committed would result in a fine of a minimum $2m and possible suspension from the ICC."

Meanwhile, England could be hit by a further blow should the ICC look to punish them further by withdrawing the ICC Champions Trophy it is due to stage later this year. A decision is expected today. India is touted as favourite to host the event should the ICC make a decision few are expecting, and shift venues.
