Protest to save Swiss club

A major demonstration featuring fans, players and board members, will be staged in Switzerland this weekend in a bid to save cash-strapped former champions Servette from financial ruin.

It is hoped the attention generated by the protests will help save the club which, say reports, is CHF11m in debt.

Club officials have warned that failure to secure new investment soon could see the club go into bankruptcy by the end of the month.

Meanwhile, talks of a takeover of English Premier League club Leeds United by Ugandan businessman Michael Ezra have stalled. Ezra says the club, already in negotiations with a consortium of local businessmen, are unhappy with his proposal for a new board of directors.

Leeds have until the end of the week to come up with sufficient funds to secure their future until the end of the season, or face administration.
