Serie A goes Thai

MP Web, the new media division of Italian firm Media Partners, has signed a deal with a major internet channel in Asia for Serie A soccer.

The deal, brokered by Asian football promoter ProEvents, sees Samart - a leading online and mobile news and entertainment provider in Thailand - secure video clip rights in a five-year deal.

The deal will give Samart five-year exclusive rights in Thailand to 'use, display, broadcast, communicate and/or transmit the video clips including near-live goals in MMS and match highlights for GPRS users through wireless technologies'.

Said Paul Kam, chairman of ProEvents Group: "Samart is clearly the market leader with 80 percent market share with millions on its customer database in Thailand.

“Samart will be able to access around 136 matches per season including the likes of Juventus, Milan, Inter, Lazio, Roma and Parma. This marks a new era for Italian football business in Asia and we will continue to expand and introduce other premier football products to Asia.”

The contract covers the 2003/04 - 2007/08 seasons.
