The Philips Arena will host the event over February 12-13, next year, and follows in the footsteps of the city’s success in hosting Major League Baseball’s All Star Game in 2000.
Now local government chiefs are hoping the event will help boost the local economy.
Said Atlanta mayor Shirley Franklin, quoted in the US press: “We’ll be attracting national and international attention. The implication of hosting this event is really going to bring benefits to us.”
Atlanta has won the right to host the NHL’s All-Star Weekend in 2005.
