Four set for FIBA bid battle

European basketball governing body FIBA Europe says four nations have approached it with a view to hosting the 2007 European Championship for Men.

The basketball bodies for Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Spain have all expressed an interest in hosting the event and will all shortly receive a bid manual from FIBA detailing the criteria required.

The nations will then have until April 30 to decide whether to formally submit a bid.

Those pursuing a bid will be visited by the FIBA Europe evaluation committee during May and June.

The findings of those visits, along with presentations from the bid teams themselves, will then be made at the FIBA Europe board meeting scheduled for Estonia on November 12 this year.

A final decision is expected shortly afterwards.
