AFC mourns death

Nabon Noor, former senior vice president of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), has died. He was 74.

He had been suffering from illness for the last couple of years.

Said AFC general secretary Peter Velappan: “The AFC football family is deeply saddened by his demise. His contribution and service to football as a whole was immense. It will be difficult to replace a man of such standing.”

He was first elected as AFC vice president in 1994 after having served as the Indonesian member of the AFC Executive Committee from 1981-1990. He was also the chairman of the AFC Media Committee from 1998-2002 and was general secretary of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) from 1990-1992.

His other appointment in the PSSI was as chairman of the Indonesian league from 1981-1988. Nabon Noor was also a former member of the FIFA Media Committee and is a recipient of the FIFA Order of Merit.
