FIFA scores video game goal

Tagged in

Video game sales in the UK hit a new high in 2003 – with FIFA’s officially endorsed game being the top-seller.

Latest figures from the Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA) said total sales for video games in the UK toppled a record £1.26bn – up 7.1 percent of the previous year.

The market is currently buoyed by the success of three major consoles, the Sony PlayStation 2, Nintendo’s GameCube, and Microsoft’s X-Box.
But it was the power of the officially-licensed product which ensured one game came out top – with Electronic Arts’ FIFA 2004 – the latest in a long-line of annual updates on the licence – becoming the top seller, shifting more than 600,000 copies in just ten weeks.
