League chiefs visit Expos

Major League Baseball officials travelled to Monterrey this week as part of its on-going hunt to find a new home for the league-owned Montreal Expos.

The Expos, who have seen a number of home games shifted to Puerto Rico for the 2003 and 2004 seasons, are being pursued by a number of cities, among them Portland and Washington DC.

Carlos Bremer, head of an investment group trying to lure the Expos to Monterrey, said in the US media: “They wanted to take a closer look at the community and the people that support our proposal.
“We think they like what they saw."
“We believe Monterrey has the strongest proposal to host the Expos of anyone out there."
