Malaysia wants 2010 Asian Games

Malaysia is to post a bid to host the 2010 Asian Games.

Malaysia will join Guangzhou China in bidding for the event although it is thought that the bid will not represent a massive financial burden to the country.

Tunku Imran Tunku Jaafar, chairman of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), commented: "We don’t want to spend too much money on presentations and the bidding process. We believe this money is better spent on development programs in the country.
"If there is another city or country that wants to bid, we hope to strike a bargain with that country."

Delegations are expected to be sent to inspect facilities in all candidate cities next February and March and the final result will be announced in June.
