OWRS eyes January deal

Open Wheel Racing Series (OWRS) could finally complete its purchase of CART by the end of the month.

Under a plan approved by a US District bankruptcy judge, the deal could go through by January 28.

The move comes weeks after the pre-Christmas move to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as part of the deal with the Gerry Forsythe led OWRS group.

US District Judge Frank Otte overruled objections to the sales procedures and set the date of January 23 as a deadline for any alternative bids for the assets of CART.

Should no other offers be made, it seems inevitable OWRS will become, as expected, the new owners by the end of the month.

OWRS is already running the day-to-day business.

It is reported CART’s assets will cost OWRS a total of around $3m - $1.6m for the key contracts and assets to run the series, and the extra to fund some additional liabilities.
