The interactive media and internet company of Major League Baseball, said that it sold a record 7.4 million tickets online at MLB.com, the official league website, and all 30 individual club sites - a 90 percent increase over the 3.9 million tickets sold online for the 2002 season.
The company sold 2 million online tickets in 2001.
"Online ticket sales already surpass the number of tickets sold by telephone or at ticket outlets and we believe that buying tickets online is the way most single game tickets will be purchased in the future," said Noah Garden, senior vice president of e-commerce for MLBAM.
"Our cutting edge technologies are setting the stage for achieving new records in 2004."
A number of the 19 team sites provide a view of the field from the specific seats a fan is considering purchasing and 8 teams now offer a print-at-home ticket service eliminating the need for delivery or standing in line at the stadium will-call windows.
