Fukuoka's victory in getting the World Cross-Country championships in 2006 will mark the first time the event has been held in Asia. Two years later, the IAAF World Championships will also be in Japan in Osaka.
The host cities for two of athletics' most prestigiuous events have been decided with Moscow set to stage the 2006 World Indoor Championships and Fukuoka in Japan hosting the World Cross-Country Championships in the same year.
