Magny-Cours off for 2004

Organisers of the French Formula One Grand Prix have signed a new five-year deal with Bernie Ecclestone – but will not stage a race on the 2004 calendar.

Magny-Cours will be missing from the new season due to what is being reported as an inability to give Ecclestone the financial guarantees required for 2004.

But the circuit will be back for 2005.

Said circuit chief Roland Hodel: “We're having a break in 2004, in agreement with Ecclestone, and we have signed a contract from 2005 to 2009, with the possibility of adding another five years.
"In 2004 everyone who loves motor sport has to launch into action to bring in all the partnerships which are necessary for us to have Formula One back again."
