The Athens organising committee are under significant international pressure to expand counterterrorism preparations for the Olympics, which already carry a record $755million budget for security.
A recent US State Department report said Greek authorities were not fully prepared for biochemical threats.
This view was countered by the Greek defence minister Yiannos Papantoniou who stated: "We are ready to face any threat as a military, especially during the Olympic Games."
A seven-nation advisory group, including the United States, Israel and Britain, are helping draft the security blueprint for the Games.
Papantoniou refuted suggestions that outside help was needed in the security operation, saying the Greek forces could handle both Olympic security and border surveillance.
As part of the enhanced security operation ahead of next year's Olympics in Athens, the Greek military has announced plans to form a 200 member unit to deal with nuclear, biological or chemical threats during the Games.
