A group made up of 11 Chinese and overseas companies won the tender for the National Gymnasium and the Olympic Athletes’ Village, while the tender for the Convention Center went to a consortium of two local enterprises – Beijing North Star Industrial Ltd. and Beijing Real Estate Group Ltd.
An offical signing ceremony at the weekend signalled the successful completion of the public tenders for the 2008 Games.
Tenders for four other major Olympic projects – the National Swimming Center, the National Stadium, the Wukesong Cultural and Sports Complex and the Olympic Aquatic Park – have already been awarded.
The construction of four main stadiums will begin this December with Beijing 2008 expected to finish constructing all the venues by the end of 2006.
Two further tenders have been awarded for the construction of three new sports venues ahead of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
