IMG pushing Danish golf event

Sports marketing giant IMG is behind a move to introduce a golf tournament in Denmark to the European Tour next year.

In cooperation with Danish sports management firm ELM, golfer Thomas BjC8rn and TV network TV2, IMG announced its intention to endeavour to
introduce a Danish Open on the European Tour in 2004 and onwards.
The recent success of Denmark's professional golfers, led by Thomas BjC8rn, has given Denmark the reputation of being one of the strongest golf nations in Europe.
BjC8rn commented: "I am incredibly proud of how Danish golf has developed in recent years and I believe it is important for Danish golf in the future that there be an annual European Tour event in Denmark each year.
"This is why I welcomed the announcement of the Nordic Open in 2003 and why I fully support the efforts of ELM, IMG and TV2 who are trying to ensure that we have a high quality tournament in Denmark in 2004 and beyond."
The Danish Open requires sponsorship of approximately EUR2.5million to be launched and IMG is hoping to land one title sponsor along with a small group of partners/sponsors to secure the events future in years to come.
