Formula One’s efforts to pump up its global TV audience has produced results, according to Mediametrie.

The latest Eurodata TV Worldwide report on the just-concluded F1 season shows that the overall audience is on the rise, although continues to slip in some key markets – perhaps most surprisingly Germany, hope of six-times champion Michael Schumacher.

Highlights reveal the average F1 audience in France increasing for the first time since 2000, with an average of 3.6m per Grand Prix, in Italy, with an average of 9.7m, and the UK with 3.2m.

The best performance came in Finland where Kimi Raikkonen’s bid for glory attracted an average of one inhabitant out of five to watch each race.

Germany’s decline continued however for the third year. However, races still gather an audience of 9m.

Said Jacques Braun, director at Mediametrie International: “While using an adapted TV format and while taking advantage of the new pilots coming to the fore with the ability of beating Schumacher, Formula One has started to recapture it TV audience.”
