Chelsea signs new deal

UK stadium architects AFL has been awarded the design contract for the new training academy of London soccer club Chelsea.

The academy, which is due to begin construction on site in summer 2004, will see Chelsea’s professional training ground relocating to a state-of-the art new facility at the Imperial College Ground in Surrey.

Said AFL’s John Roberts: “AFL has worked with the planning considerations and local environment to design a building which both complements the existing buildings nearby and provides a practical space for Chelsea’s players to train. We have a long-standing relationship with Chelsea which has seen us designing both the West Stand and the North East Infill – this latest building will add another landmark sports project to our portfolio and a superb new facility to Chelsea FC’s estates.”
