The move by SMS to set up an office in Asia has been made in response to the increasing amount of business being done by the sports industry on the continent.
Stephen Proctor, managing director of Sports Marketing Surveys, commented: "Japan is the 2nd largest economy in the World, and one of the biggest investors in sponsorship and sport.
"For many years we have enjoyed excellent relationships with Japanese companies and therefore we will be able to offer them local support and also increase our presence in Japan."
Research firm Sports Marketing Surveys has officially opened its Japanese office in Tokyo.
