FIFA: What are its TV plans?

The will-they, won’t-they saga of FIFA’s future World Cup TV rights going in-house has raised its head once more, sportbusiness.com can reveal, after president Sepp Blatter said it was once again weighing up its options.

Blatter suggested FIFA was closely examining plans to end its traditional agency deal and integrate the TV sales operation into its FIFA Marketing unit.

It marks a u-turn for Blatter who admitted FIFA had recently dismissed the idea for future deals – preferring instead to take the guarantee offered by an outside agency.

The news will not please the likes of Infront, the current FIFA TV partner for the 2010 and 2014 rights, or iSe, the new Dentsu/Publicis joint venture which has made little secret that the rights to future World Cups are clearly in its sights.
