BT rings in new NFL deal

NFL has extended its deal with BT Broadcast Services to transmit games and highlights across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

The new deal will see the UK-based firm provide international distribution services for the NFL's Sunday afternoon and evening games, Monday night games and NFL highlight shows, NFL Blast and NFL Gameday, for the sixth consecutive season.
Said Bill McNamara, general manager for BT Broadcast Services, the Americas: “American football is fast becoming a popular sport globally and the NFL is in a perfect position to capitalise on the opportunity.
"Through our global digital broadcasting services, the NFL is giving international viewers exactly what they want.”

Distribution of the games to Europe and the Middle East encompasses the use of satellite capacity on New Skies to transmit the signals from BT’s teleport in Washington DC.

For distribution to Asia, the signal will travel via fiber from the various game venues to PanAmSat’s earth station in Napa Valley, CA for satellite transmission to Asia via PAS2. At the Napa Valley Teleport the signal will also be encrypted and encoded to guard against piracy.
