An official partner of the English Football Association has joined the call for the England national team's crunch qualifier for the Euro 2004 tournament to be shown on free-to-air television.

Peter Gandolfi, Nationwide's head of sports marketing has joined UK government minister Richard Caborn in calling for exclusive live rights holder Sky to allow a terrestrial channel to show the game next month.

Victory or a draw for England will ensure they qualify as group winners for the tournament in Portugal next summer.

UEFA has threatened to ban England from the tournament should fans behave badly - and the move to free-to-air would be seen as further incentive for fans to not travel to the game.

The English Football Association has already banned ticket sales to England fans for the volatile fixture.
