US soccer league deflated

The Women's United Soccer Association has been forced to suspend operations due to a financial crisis and sponsorship shortfall - just days before the start of the FIFA Women's World Cup.

While hopes are high the World Cup may fire interest in the sport and allow the league to make a return perhaps as early as 2005, the end of the league marks a new low-point in soccer's efforts to crack the US market.
