Rugby a class apart for business

More than 4,200 companies have signed up to Rugby Business Class Australia (RBCA) – a trade organisation set-up to capitalise on this year’s Rugby World Cup.

Endorsed by the Australian Rugby Union, the RBCA is the co-ordinated federal programme supported by a network of state and territory governments and industry associations. It has organised a number of themed events and networking sessions both in Australian and abroad in the run-up to the tournament.
Said rugby coach and RBCA ambassador David Nucifora: “With only 30 days to go until the biggest sporting event of the year, the international spotlight has been firmly positioned on Australia.
“During the World Cup, business and rugby will mix and we as a country, need to make the most of it.”
It is estimated around 35 percent of its members are overseas businesses.
Added Nucifora: “We’ve had strong interest from countries such as the US, UK, France and South Africa, who are all major trading partners for Australia.
“We also have members from lesser known rugby nations such as Argentina, Uruguay, Romania and Tonga, which provides further opportunities to develop business links with companies in these countries.
“The success of Business Club Australia organised by Austrade for the Sydney 2000 Olympics has provided the model for RBCA and we’d hope to see similar export success stories result from this initiative.”
