Kenyon to start 'in February'

Peter Kenyon, the Manchester United CEO who quit the club for rivals Chelsea earlier this week, will not assume his new position until February it has emerged.

Kenyon, lured to the London club by Russian billionaire owner Roman Abramovich with the promise of his salary being doubled to more than £1m, is now on ‘gardening leave’ at United.

The confirmation Kenyon – the man credited with some of United’s biggest commercial deals in recent years – was to quit was met with the predictable drop in United’s share price on the London Stock Exchange yesterday.

At close of trading, United had seen tens of millions wiped off its value as shares plunged by more than 5.5 percent. Analysts believe the drop will, however, be a temporary blip, although it sends a clear signal as to the worth of Kenyon to the club.
