FIFA drives tournament awareness

FIFA is kick-starting a series of promotional activities to raise awareness of the Women's World Cup in the US next month.

The showpiece will be the FIFA Women's World Cup USA 2003 Road Show, which will travel across the US.

Utilising vehicles provided by sponsor Hyundai, it will tour 20 cities, call in at all venues for the event, plus official partner headquarters.

The public will be given the chance of winning official event merchandise, and have their photo taken with the tournament trophy.

The roadshow will conclude on September 21, when the tournament kicks-off at the RFK Memorial Stadium in Washington (pictured).
The US has had an extremely short run-in for the tournament - it was switched earlier this summer from original hosts China following the outbreak of the SARS virus.

Said FIFA president Sepp Blatter: "All over the US, the FIFA Women’s World Cup Road Show will help to raise the awareness of the world’s biggest women’s football event and create excitement far beyond the circle of deep-rooted football fans.”
