Rights holder for the event, the Global Cricket Corporation (GCC) is demanding $47m from the ICC, the sports world governing body, in compensation after Indian players failed to agree to drop all personal endorsement deals as per tournament rules.
But now the BCCI has blasted the GCC and asked for its money to be paid immediately – and won the support of the ICC.
Said BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya: “We consider the hiked up claims of $47m by GCC as exaggerated, baseless and flimsy. The claims have not been dealt with properly.
"We have demanded from the IDI, the commercial arm of the ICC, to release the withheld share of $6.5m to BCCI.
"We have discussed the whole matter and demanded our dues with interest."
The GCC has a $550m rights deal for ICC events until 2007.
Said an ICC statement: "The ICC is standing firm against the $47m claim by its commercial partner, GCC, after its investigations identified that many of the allegations made by GCC's marketing agent World Sport Nimbus (WSN) lacked substance."
However the GCC insists its claim is based on ‘accurate and reasonable grounds’.
