The move is the second time in three weeks that the CFL has been forced to take over the reins of one of its franchises after the league revoked the Toronto Argonauts from owner Sherwood Schwarz after the New York insurance magnate stopped paying the club's bills.
The CFL officially assumed control of the troubled Hamilton Tiger-Cats at the weekend, a day after co-owners David Macdonald and George Grant failed for the second time this week to make the club's C$130,000 a-game payroll.
Commented CFL commissioner Tom Wright: "Hamilton is a very, very special place for the CFL. The fans of Hamilton are some of the most passionate in our league, if not the most passionate.
"At the same time, I think it is only appropriate that the same passion, the same commitment, the same investment that our fans here have made to this club be returned by us as the people responsible for the game."
The Canadian Football League has taken control of the financially troubled team franchise the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
