Qatar confirmed for MotoGP 2004

MotoGP has unveiled its new calendar for 2004 - with Qatar the only new addition, following the signing earlier this summer of a new five-year hosting agreement.

President of the Qatar motorcycle federation, Naser Bin Khalifa al-Ateiah, agreed a five-year deal to host the races with Dorna chief executive Carmelo Ezpeleta in June - although it was not confirmed at the time if the race would take place first in 2004 or 2005.

However the FIA has given the green light for the track built new Doha, putting Qatar onto the calendar.

It is part of a major boom in motorsports in the region - in 2005 Qatar hosts a round of the World Superbike Championship, and Bahrain is set to host a Formula One Grand Prix.

The first Qatar MotoGP Grand Prix will be held on October 2.
