Chinese delight for La Liga

Spanish soccer's La Liga has signed an exclusive media rights deal covering China for the next five years.

ACIG Media will hold the exclusive rights to the official La Liga websites, magazines and multi-media messaging services in China. The agreement also covers Chinese soccer lotteries and betting in China, Hong Kong and Macau.

The deal authorises ACIG Media’s Chinese subsidiary, Beijing Greatgate Truewin Information Co. Ltd (BGT) with exclusive rights on the La Liga logo, the badges, logos, names and colours of the clubs affiliated to the La Liga, and the images and the names of the players of the clubs in the LA Liga.

BGT will control and exploit all rights in China, Hong Kong and Macau, starting in September of this year.

Said ACIG Media’s managing director John Ullman: “China has over 130 million dedicated soccer fans. Our La Liga licenses give us exclusive and unprecedented access to this expanding market for one of the best soccer leagues in the world.

“ACIG Media and BGT have acquired one of the most valuable soccer licenses in the world. Having the exclusive media rights to one of the three biggest soccer leagues gives ACIG Media access to some of the most powerful player and team brands in the world.”

In a separate arrangement, ACIG Media announced a similar five-year deal covering the Italian League. They will have exclusive authorisation to use the logos of the competitions organised by the Italian League (Lega Calcio), as well as being able to publish Chinese and English language versions of all official magazines produced by the Lega Calcio.
