MLB licences $500m deals

Major League Baseball has signed a string of new five-year licensing deals worth more than half a billion dollars.

The new agreements cover the global rights to produce official baseball adult apparel and headwear.

In addition to royalties, the deals include marketing commitments with the clubs, commitments toward marketing and media expenditures to promote both the league and its clubs.

Said commissioner Bud Selig: "These monumental new agreements with Majestic, New Era, Nike, VF, Twins, Dynasty and Drew Pearson are the result of a lengthy process in which many of the world’s best apparel and headwear companies expressed a strong desire to work with Major League Baseball.

"The business of Major League Baseball has never been stronger, and it is not only a compliment to MLB but also a statement about the strength of our game that so many companies were anxious to work with us.

"The companies we selected all demonstrated a strong commitment to the continued growth of Major League Baseball and these agreements will guarantee the clubs and our retail partners the same high level of service that they have come to expect from our licensing partners."
