The team led by EDAW - in partnership with HOK Sport, Foreign Office Architects, and Allies and Morrison - was chosen from a shortlist of six
consortia which competed to masterplan the Lower Lea Valley regeneration.
The masterplan will provide the 'design blueprint' needed to transform one of the poorest parts of the UK into a new development capable of staging the Games.
The masterplan must be ready in time for London's response to the International Olympic Committee questionnaire in January 2004.
Barbara Cassani, chair of the London 2012 Bid said: "Appointing the masterplanners for the Olympic Bid is an exciting step forward. We were very impressed with all the teams and are looking forward to working with the multi national consortium led by EDAW."
Research suggests that regeneration of the Lower Lea Valley could potentially create around 40,000 new jobs, 30,000 new homes and 1,000 new businesses.
The London Development Agency (LDA) has announced that a team led by EDAW has won the bid to prepare the masterplan for the proposed London 2012 Olympics site in Lower Lea Valley.
