Jaguars prowl on FieldTurf

The NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars have selected FieldTurf as the synthetic grass surface for their new practice field.

The new FieldTurf field is expected to be ready for the start of the Jags' training camp on July 26.

Jacksonville becomes the sixteenth NFL team to select FieldTurf for either its stadium field, or its practice complex.

When the Jaguars open their '03 training camp, the team will be practicing on three new fields. The team's prior practice fields at their complex adjacent to Alltel Stadium have been eliminated due to stadium construction and renovations, many of which are needed for Alltel's upgrade in preparation for Jacksonville's hosting of Super Bowl XXXIX.

The team has thus relocated their three practice fields to the northwest corner outside of the stadium. These new outdoor fields are being constructed on what previously was the site of Wolfson Park, the well-known minor league baseball stadium that was demolished to make room for the city's new baseball facility.

FieldTurf will be used on one of those full-length fields, with natural grass utilised for the other two.
