CBS' coverage will begin with the Champ Car season opener in St.Petersburg, Florida with a further nine races to be broadcast on the network later in 2004.
The contract is on a 'time buy' basis which will see CART purchase air time and produce the programming itself.
Commented Rob Correa, CBS vice president of programming: "It's the only live show, live series of shows, that CBS does where we allow outsiders, outside package, non-CBS personnel to produce and direct the show for us. That's really a sign of the faith we have in Champ Car.
"It's a reality of doing business these days. I think you have to get away from any potential negative connotation that the 'time buy' has, and look at it more as a way of generating the most revenue possible."
Motor sports series CART has signed a TV rights deal with US network CBS to televise 10 races next year.
