The agreement sees Nextel become the official sponsor and exclusive wireless carrier of the Gold Cup.
The Gold Cup will run July 12-27 and be televised nationwide on the Univision broadcast network and Galavision cable network, which reach more than 65 million US households and 97 percent of US Hispanic households.
Nextel's sponsorship will be an integrated communications effort that includes advertising, in-stadium promotion, wireless-device content and online action coverage.
Telecommunications firm Nextel has followed up its lucrative title sponsorship contract with NASCAR by signing a commercial deal with the Gold Cup, North America's largest soccer tournament.
