Asian and African football unites

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) have moved to strengthen their ties by discussing the possibilities of resuming competitions between the two organisations.

The negotiations took place when AFC president Mohamed Bin Hammam met with Issa Hayatou, president of CAF, in Beirut for a formal discussion on future cooperation.
Said Hammam: "I am delighted to be re-establishing firm links with the Confederation Africaine de Football, as our friends and brothers in the development of football. From today, we will look to the future, with football's long-term progress as our mutual aim.
"Despite some differences between both of our confederations, there are so many areas where we can assist each other. We aim to make the most of our partnership as we move forward in creating a new dynamic for football. Our joint focus will be on broadening and strengthening this partnership.
Development at the grassroots level always leads to ongoing success."
The move comes shortly after the governing body for Oceania had talks with the AFC to discuss a similar strengthening of ties.
