Vancouver edges to victory

Vancouver's victory in winning the 2010 Winter Olympics was unexpectedly close it has emerged, with the Canadian city winning by only three votes.

Vancouver won the 2010 bid vote of the IOC members by the slimmest of margins - accumulating 56 votes in the final round of voting compared to rival PyeongChang's 53.
The Korean city of PyeongChang actually had a lead after the first round of voting with 51 IOC members supporting the bid against Vancouver with 40 and Salzburg with 16.
Salzburg was eliminated after the first round and Vancouver got almost all of the absorbed votes to grind out a victory.
PyeongChang was considered a longshot but was eventually just three votes shy of winning the ballot.
