UK racing gets tough on corruption

New proposals forcing UK racehorse owners and trainers to lodge details of their bookmaker and betting exchange accounts to the Jockey Club to help deter corruption were unveiled yesterday by a security review team.

Trainers found guilty under the ‘non-trier’ rules will also face harsher penalties with licence suspension possible in the worst cases.
Said the review team’s report:” It is clear from the information examined that over the years racing had suffered from some people who have engaged in corrupt activity or who have sought to corrupt others, including licensed and registered people.”
