Elite Hockey League proposal blocked

Chaos continues to surround UK ice hockey after the governing body rejected a bid by eight teams to form a new ‘Elite League’ which would replace the existing Superleague.

The organisation has refused to back the proposal at tomorrow’s IHUK board meeting and the clubs – Basingstoke, Belfast, Cardiff, Coventry, Manchester, Harringay, Nottingham and Sheffield – may now be forced to form a rogue league.
The Elite League was proposed after a number of clubs were forced to withdraw from the last Superleague season due to mounting financial problems.
