ICC hands over CWC funds

England, New Zealand and Sri Lanka are to be given some of the money withheld by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after this year's Cricket World Cup, but India are forced to wait.

The decision comes after the board of ICC (Development) International was briefed on the claim for compensation by its commercial partner, Global Cricket Corporation following the cancellation of a handful of the tournaments' games due to the political situation in Zimbabwe and Kenya.
England will receive $1.5million of the additional $3.5m withheld; New Zealand will get $0.5m of the additional $2.5m withheld; and Sri Lanka are handed all of the additional $0.5m withheld from it after the tournament.
After examining the claim the board made an informed judgment on the likely maximum claims that would be made against these countries and concluded that it was apparent that these are unlikely to exceed the amounts withheld.
In relation to the money withheld from India, the board was not able to determine the likely maximum and as a result there was not the opportunity to return any withheld monies at this stage.

IDI president, Ehsan Mani, stated: “The nature of the claims allowed us to return money to three of our boards.
“In relation to the Indian board, it is not possible at this stage to assess the likely maximum claims and all countries made the prudent financial decision to continue to withhold the Indian board’s World Cup distribution at this stage.”
After discussing the GCC claim, the IDI board agreed to move forward by authorizing management to finalize a comprehensive response to the GCC claim as soon as practicable.
