Salzburg 2010 bid drops venue

The Salzburg 2010 Olympic bid committee has made further changes to its proposal after dropping the venues in Ramsau from its plans.

The ski jumping and nordic combined events that were proposed for Ramsau will now be added to the existing ski jumping and nordic events being held at Bischofshofen. The move is seen as a further attempt to offer a highly compact venue plan to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Ramsau would have been the furthest venue from the main Olympic village at 87km. Bischofshofen is only 53km away.
The IOC evaluation report suggested that "teams may experience logistical difficulties" having Ramsau as a second venue for the events. Additional concerns surrounded the difference in altitude (300m) between the venue and the nearest Olympic village in Amade.
It appears that this recent move has occured without much opposition. In May, Kitzbuhel threatened to withdraw from the bid completely when some of its events were removed from the plan.
Salzburg is up against Vancouver in Canada and the Korean city of Pyeongchang to win the host city status for the 2010 Winter Games. A decision on the winning bid will be made in the first week of July.
