ESPN HD gets DirecTV carriage

ESPN has reached a carriage agreement with US pay-TV platform DirecTV for the network's new high definition simulcast channel, ESPN HD.

The ESPN HD service will launch as part of DirecTV's new high definition programming package on July 1.
Commented ESPN's executive vice president of affiliate sales and marketing, Sean Bratches: "As the number one sports television brand in America, we are very pleased that ESPN HD will soon be available to DIRECTV's customer base, a growing and passionate audience of high-definition television.
"Consumers are demanding more and more high-definition content as evidenced by the daily requests ESPN receives, and we are excited to offer ESPN HD's compelling sports experience to DirecTV customers."
