The multi-year deal between ING and the New York Road Runners means the race will now be known as the ING New York City Marathon.
Part of the package includes a $1m investment in the ING Run for Something Better programme, which will include significant contributions to advance running and fitness programs locally and internationally.
Said Shaun Mathews, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for ING's US financial services: "In collaboration with New York Road Runners, we plan to bring fresh ideas to the race, enhance the experience for the runners and spectators, and also to make a difference in the New York community."
The race regularly attracts more than 30,000 runners, two million spectators and has a global TV audience in excess of 250m.
The first race carrying the new name will run on November 2.
