Government backs Moscow

The Russian government has confirmed its backing for Moscow's bid for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Local media reports say the decision to support the bid was approved during a cabinet meeting earlier this week.
Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov was presented with the bid plans by the Russian Olympic Committee and gave the bid its backing.

Moscow joins a strong line-up of bidding cities for the event, which includes New York, Paris, London, Madrid, and Leipzig.
