Athens gets secure

The Greek government has awarded a contract for the security infrastructure of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.

Under the terms of the contract, the Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) team will provide the Greek government with elements of the infrastructure needed for securing many locations including sporting venues, the athletes' village, and the ports where cruise ships housing visitors will be docked.

SAIC also will build various security command centres that will be used by the Greek government to oversee security activities during the Games.

SAIC's US and international team members include Siemens, Nokia, AMS, E Team, and Greek companies ALTEC, Diekat and Pouliadis-PC Systems.

The SAIC team will work closely with all Greek government agencies involved in the Olympics as well as the Athens Organising Committee.

Said Dr. J. Robert Beyster, chairman, president and chief executive officer of SAIC: "During the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics we successfully integrated many of the same systems that will be used in the 2004 Games.

"SAIC is well-positioned to establish and understand the complex integration requirements for such a significant event, and we look forward to working with the Greek government on this important project."
