TV firms join forces for 2004 push

Broadcast facilities firms Gearhouse Broadcast, Globecast and Stefi Productions have formed a strategic alliance ahead of next year's Olympic Games in Athens.

The alliance was formed in a bid to create a one-stop service primarily for non-rights holders during the Games, although ancillary services will be provided for rights holders.

Each company brings a complimentary offering to the partnership. Stefi Productions is based in the heart of Athens and offer access to studios, accommodation, live location back drops, production offices, production staff, transport, security & warehousing.
Gearhouse Broadcast’s equipment rental stock which will be available for rental throughout the duration of the Olympic Games as well as access to technical and production crew and facilities, including a senior project director based in Athens.
While GlobeCast will provide worldwide satellite transmissions, uplinking facilities, playout, conversion, encoding and mobile SNG facilities for global broadcasters.

Eamonn Dowdall, managing director for Gearhouse Broadcast’s UK office, comments: "We have identified a need in the market for these types of services and by creating a strategic alliance with GlobeCast and Stefi Productions we can offer broadcasters more. Instead of liasing with 3 different suppliers they are effectively talking to one point of contact who can assist in their entire production from beginning to end."

Commenting from GlobeCast, Gary Champion, head of European news, stated: "As the world’s largest provider of sport transmission and production facilities, GlobeCast will use its vast experience already gained at major international sporting events to contribute to a successful partnership enabling us, together, to offer broadcasters a one-stop-shop from a specially created Broadcast Base."
