With New York, Madrid, London and Leipzig already confirmed as would-be host cities for the event, Paris is set to join the list after months of speculation.
The French city is viewed as one of the front-runners for the Games which is widely expected to return to Europe.
Said Leonid Tjagaschjow, president of Russia’s Olympic Committee: “I believe Moscow would be a very good choice for the Olympic movement and I would call our chances very good.”
Bids from Cuba and Brazil are also expected on or before the IOC's official deadline of July 15.
Paris is expected to finally declare as a runner in the race to host the 2012 Olympic Games this week, as Moscow confirmed it too was in the chase.
