Squash event hit by SARS

Squash is the latest sport to be impacted by the SARS virus after the Hong Kong Open was cancelled.

The tournament, which was due to take place from 24-31 August, was axed after it became unclear how long the threat caused by the SARS virus would go on for.

Commented Hong Kong Squash executive director Heather Deayton: "We were running to a tight timetable. There is a lot of planning involved but given the current situation we can't be certain what is going to happen.
"It's extremely disappointing but there was agreement all round from sponsors and the tournament committee that we should cancel the event this year."
