The Cuban Olympic Committee is set to outline full plans next week for the bid, which will see Havana join an increasingly strong line-up of cities looking to land the right to host the event.
The full list of bidding cities is still not required until July, but it seems highly likely the list will include Paris, London, New York, Madrid, Moscow and Leipzig, as well as an entry from Brazil.
Cuban Olympic Committee president Jose Ramon Fernandez confirmed the IOC would receive an official intention to bid notification next month.
He also said Cuba would organise an event that 'gave athletes rather than sponsors priority'. Given Cuba has remained true to communism it is highly likely its desire to play down the importance of major sponsors could damage it hopes for bid success.
